The Epping War Memorial is a beautiful place to visit. If you are in the area, make sure that you stop by for a tour! The memorial has been an important part of the community since it was built in 1922 and still serves as a tribute to those who have served this country with distinction. There’s plenty here at Epping War Memorial so take your time exploring everything on offer! It’s open every day from sunrise until sunset, so be sure not to miss out!
It is a stunning building in Epping NSW 2121 that was built with locally quarried sandstone and designed by Conrad Dressler. It features two domes on the roof, capped off by urns for the light which were added in 1939 after the death of King George VI.
Epping War Memorial includes many beautiful stained glass windows that are dedicated to those who served in the First and Second World Wars.
The memorial is home to a Peace Garden which offers respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life while also celebrating peace as an act of resistance, teaching visitors about local plants that have medicinal properties, highlighting different cultures through artistic expression, and more!
There are many opportunities to do much-needed community service while at the Memorial. Volunteers can tutor kids, assist with gardening and landscaping, or play games on Saturday mornings for those who live in aged care homes.
Guided tours of Epping War Memorial are available every day from Monday through Friday at 11:00 am; Saturdays starting at 12:45 pm; and Sundays between 12:30 pm – 14:00 pm. You’ll never get bored in this place!
The memorial’s museum has two floors filled with fascinating artifacts that tell stories of local history as well as provide insights into military life during wartime including weapons, uniforms, medals of honor, photos taken by soldiers but not allowed home (until 1984), letters back to home, and more.
The memorial also has a small café on-site where you can enjoy some refreshments while taking in the scenery. You’ll feel at peace here!
There are many other things to see and do at Epping War Memorial, including the beautifully landscaped gardens. If you’re feeling up to it, take a walk around the grounds! You’ll feel better already after spending some time in this space.
Epping War Memorial is open every day of the year from sunrise until sunset. The memorial’s café closes about an hour before sundown but visitors are welcome to picnic on-site or enjoy their lunch there if they wish.
